Welcome to Voice's Of Power
Voice of Power- The greater accessibility the greater independence
Welcome!
I started Voice's Of Power two years ago in a cold month of January after continuing to volunteer and serve the disability community I realized that most advocacy groups are agency based and does not welcome anyone from the outside so I took up the role to develop my own inclusive advocacy group that welcomes people who are able-bodied and people with disabilities. We are a judge free zone!
We welcome parents, caregivers and professionals to engage in advocacy and how it can benefit others
When I first started it started with adults with disabilities who came from an agency than a month later it became a mix of both adults and students with disabilities that is when I found my main focus for the group which became to teaching students with disabilities about advocacy. It turned out to be a group with all girls. So it turn out to be an all girls advocacy group/ Within theses two years these beautiful young ladies has taught me so much about life and beyond.
They allowed me to truly see the importance of educating youth, the idea of bringing self advocacy into schools and making it a more inclusive environment.
Currently has we grew over the years this year we hope to expand with members from other schools, we hope to bring self advocacy into schools as part of the school curriculum and develop activities to make schools an inclusive environment.
We are hopefully going to start a girl scout club this year 2018, we have some exciting new opportunities building on so stay tuned and continue to follow Voice's Of Power Journey.
We are in the progress to see if it is possible to start a diverse group of students with disabilities (Both girls and boys)
Topics we discuss is Employment, Education, transportation, disability history..etc
We meet @ Grand Army Plaza Library on the second Friday of every month.
You can post your questions and comments on here if you are interested or would like to present to my group.
